Rotary District 6420 offers an ambassadorial scholarship worth $25,000  to a college student, for either a junior year or graduate studies abroad in academic year 2015 – 2016.  This scholarship is intended for a student who not only wants to study abroad in their intended field of study, but who also wants to be a part of a culture, sharing the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self by improving the quality of life for the people in that country as an ambassador of good will, peace and service.  Full information and application may be viewed at the Rotary District 6420 website of  www.clubrunner.ca/6420/ .

 

Eligibility of a candidate for consideration includes the following:

1.  Must have legal residence in District 6420;

2.  Must be of exemplar academic achievement;

3.  Must be enthusiastic, unselfish, adaptable, comfortable with public speaking, and a natural leader;

4.  Must  be of highest moral character;

5.  Must be sponsored by a local Rotary Club.

 

Eligibility excludes the following:

1.  Rotarian or direct line descendants of Rotarians, including step children and spouses;

2.  A university sponsored study-abroad program;

3.  A candidate to return to a country in which she/he has lived for an extended period of time.

 

Global Grant Scholarships for Master’s degree studies only also follow these same guidelines and procedures, use the same application, and are worth $30,000.  This scholarship is especially desirable to a candidate interested in studying in second and third world cultures and MUST further at least one of the following Rotary Foundation areas of focus:

-          Peace and conflict prevention/resolution

-          Disease prevention and treatment

-          Water and sanitation

-          Basic education and literacy

-          Economic and community development

-          Maternal and child health.

 

Timeline for this year’s applications and interviews:

1.  Request to Sponsor is due to local sponsoring club before May 1;

2.  Application must arrive to committee chair in Rockford no later than May 30, preferably sooner;

3.  Briefing luncheon will be held in Rockford on Thursday, June 19;

4.  Mandatory District Interview will be held Saturday, June 21, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
