Rock Falls Rotary welcomed Georgia Sanford who shared her story of being diagnosed with stage 3 polio when she was 8 years old in Sterling.  Georgia shared the physical side of the disease, as well as the emotional side, as families in the Rock River Valley struggled to understand why the disease was spreading and affecting children and adults alike.  Archives of the Daily  Gazette show several pages of names of citizens in the Sterling-Rock Falls area who were so diagnosed.  In the 1950's;  there was an epidemic of polio with few answers to the questions of why.

Rock Falls Rotary members had fundraised from both its own members and the public for polio eradication during the month of November.  Georgia' s presentation personalized  for many members the disease which has become the signature humanitarian project of Rotary International since the 80's.

Betty Clementz, Rock Falls Rotarian, presents to Georgia Sanford a Thank You gift for sharing her story as a polio survivor with the Rock Falls Rotary Club members.
