Tom Brooks, District 6420 Rotary Youth Exchange Chair, shared the Rotary Youth Exchange program as a part of the multi-district Central States organization with members of the Rock Falls Rotary Club.

Two programs exist: Short Term which is a literal exchange between two students who spend 2-3 weeks in each other's homes during the summer and Long Term which is a full year overseas in another culture. Both programs require the endorsement of a local Rotary Club for a student to participate. Long term exchange students apply in the fall with interviews for acceptance into the program in September for the following school year to go abroad. during the months between acceptance and departure many activities of training and understanding the responsibilities and privileges of such an exchange are presented to students. If a student in the Rock Falls area is looking to apply, hosting an exchange student before becoming an exchange student is a great experience. Your family will be much relieved to understand how much support is given to an exchange student. Contact Bob Sondgeroth, Youth Exchange Chair of Rock Falls Rotary, at 625-1495 for questions, if your family is interested in hosting.
